Local Women's Organization

The Battered Women's Shelter of Summit County is a shelter for women who need emergency help from abuse, rape and violence. This shelter serves as a safe haven for women who have no where else to turn. Women who are being harassed by men, husbands, family members or anyone else can go to the Battered Women's Shelter and get help. At the shelter they provide women with the support they need. The have a 24-hour hot line service for anyone that needs immediate attention. They also provide counselors that help women to deal with their issues and promote healthy relationships between women and their families. Housing units can be acquired as well for individuals or families who need them. Basically they will provide women and their children with all the basic needs, like: food, water, clothing, shelter and support. I think this is a great organization for women and their children that need help with domestic violence. I hope to continue to research this organization so that I can get more information out there. I want women to know that they can get help, because it's available and they don't deserve to be abused: emotionally, physically and sexually. Women deserve better!

About Me

Hey! I'm Bethany. I'm a freshman at the University of Akron. I'm majoring in sociology, which I absolutely love! It's just so interesting and never gets old, there's always something new to check out. I also love to run and am currently training for a half-marathon in May, which I'm so excited about. I volunteer at a local homeless shelter in Akron babysitting children. That is probably one of the things that I look forward to the most during the week. I'm also really involved in the campus focus organization located on campus. I'm really interested in learning about women and all the issues they face all across the globe. I think that through these blogs, debates, and whatever else we do we can actually start something that could make a difference for women all over the world and that really excites me!
